Designing for the camera

Module Aims: Here we will be looking at the unique set of challenges that are associated with designing for Film and Television. We are not designing interiors, we are designing to tell a story through the eye of the camera.

Practical tasks: Building on initial research, we will be solving various problems presented by a script or a location. Choice of location, schedule, time and budget. How to understand the constraints of designing for Film and Television with a mind to Cameras, Lighting and Sound, be it a set build or on location.

How do these factors work with the script. You will start to break the script down for Sets, Props, Vehicles, VFX and SFX, graphics as well as prop continuity. Develop the look and feel that the script suggests. You should produce a series of sketches, concept boards, script breakdowns and storyboards. Setting the "tone" of the film.
